The Music of Zelda

Once again, that time, it is…

MUSIC MONDAY!!!

Hello all! Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend (I know I did), and that you’re ready to kick off the week with a fresh start!

Now, onto music!

I was really racking my brain, trying to figure out what I could post (to be honest, I actually forgot until last night), and then inspiration struck – why not post some Zelda music?

For those of you who don’t know, the newest Zelda game – The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – is coming out next Sunday (SIX DAYS!!!), and I’m pretty much brimming with excitement. Not just because it’s a new Zelda game and that it’s been reviewed as the greatest Zelda game ever created, but because of the new music. Music has been a staple for the series, and each game offers brand new songs and rearranged themes that really heighten the player’s experience, so I’m dying to hear what Nintendo has in store for my ears. :P

But while I wait, I can listen to plenty of other good Zelda songs, and today I’m going to share two with you!

The first is “The Song of Healing” from the game Majora’s Mask.

Majora’s Mask is easily my favorite Zelda game, as the game is very dark and foreboding (you have three days to save the world from being crushed by it’s own moon, which has a giant ghastly face on it, and each day it gets closer and closer; creepy stuff), but also because it revolves around healing. The world and it’s people are broken, and it’s up to you to fix them, which is where the “Song of Healing” comes into play. Both depressing (in a good way) and uplifting, this somber tune washes over the broken soul and brings it back to harmony. Many a rainy day have I listened to this beautiful song…

But I don’t want to leave you in such a contemplative state of mind, so here’s a livelier piece – an awesome fan-recreation of an assortment of songs from The Wind Waker!

And with that, I bid thee adieu, friends! Once again, I hope you all have a wonderful week, and that I’ll see you here again next Monday. :)

  2. I don’t play video games and would never heard this without you. I never would have imagined this music would be the result of a game. You learn somthing new everyday. I still think I better stay away from the video games . . . I’m supporting too many electronic addictions already, but if you’d care to share more of these, I’ll happily listen.

    • Haha, so I should take your comment “I never would have imagined” as a good thing, right? ;P

But yes, the music of video games has come a loooond way from the days of Tetris and Pacman, and Nintendo consistently produces amazing compositions for their games – especially for their Mario and Zelda franchises!

Video games are addicting, though (I plan to be completely sucked into the world of Skyward Sword come this Sunday), so I understand your caution. I’ll gladly post more music, though, and I’m thrilled you liked it. :)

  4. Thanks for sharing this Tim, I like it very much. Especially the “Song of Healing”. I can use this song whenever I do my meditation prayer… I love it! :)

    • Excellent! I’m thrilled you’re actually taking it practically and applying it to your routine, because the Song of Healing is by far one of my favorite pieces of music, from video games or otherwise. I find elegant simplicity of the piano to be sublime. :)
