Where ideas flow.

Museum Musings

“Tell me, my

friend, what are

your thoughts

regarding

the workings of

the heart?”

“The workings of

the heart,

you say?”

“The workings,

I say,

indeed.”

“Well, good sir,

‘tis quite

complex,

but I shall

 try my best

to explain.

The heart, you see,

is a marvelous

vessel,

through which

our blood is

pumped.

Our arms,

our legs,

our hands,

our feet –

they all

need blood

to move.

For without blood,

they’d get no air,

and thus they’d fail

to function –

for as you know,

our breath sustains life,

thus our blood

propels them

to move.

Did that answer

your query?”

“Indeed it did!

Wonderf’lly put!

I could not have

said it better

myself!

Indeed, it was

most astute!”

“Then why, kind sir,

do I feel as if

you are going to

disagree?”

“Disagree? No!

Your facts are most

sound!

But

I think there’s

a layer that’s a bit more

profound –

a layer, which remains,

by science,

unfound.”

“And what would,

pray tell,

that be?”

“My friend,

you forget

Love.”

“Love?”

“Love.”

“Truly?”

“Indeed! For

Love springs forth

from the heart!

Just as blood is

pumped from our

hearts, so does

 Love spill out,

filling us with

compassion and

grace – such Love,

it makes man want

 to shout! – and

it comes from that

same very place;

that vessel through

which our blood

is pumped;

that vessel by

which our life

is kept;

that vessel which is

the heart.”

“An int’resting thought…”

“What was that, friend?”

“Oh? Nothing –

 I say, that’s absurd!

That Love spills out

from the heart?

Bah! You, good sir,

are a sap!”

“Hahaha!”

“What?”

“Oh, nothing,

good chap.

I’m merely amusing

myself!

I know little about

your science and facts,

and you know I’m a

poet at heart.

“Indeed you are!”

“Indeed I am!

Now come,

’tis time to

depart.”

  1. My favourite (<–British spelling!) part in this one was:

    “Disagree? No!

    Your facts are most

    sound!

    But

    I think there’s

    a layer that’s a bit more

    profound –

    a layer, which remains,

    by science,

    unfound.”

:D As per usual, you have given me much joy with this piece.

  3. Love! Haha. No, really, I do. Also love that I see perhaps some of my idea in there. Maybe.

    • Thank you, Inosha! In these poems, I always try to approach a subject from two different angles. :)
