The Rain
I envy the rain,
how it falls from the sky,
mindlessly dropping,
so free from restraint.
I envy the rain,
how it skips atop trees,
carelessly dancing,
with glistening joy.
I envy the rain,
how it falls on the Earth,
striking ground barren
and splashing new life.
I envy the rain,
how it slides down your skin,
chilling, embracing,
with liquid caress.
Oh, how I
envy
the rain…

Divine, Tim.. just Divine! It spoke to me of free, unconditional emotions able to bring life to all that they touch.

Thank you!!! Yes, the raw emotion that is the rain; that’s what captured me when writing this poem. I’m glad you could feel it! :)

One of your absolute finest. Every line was a tug at the heart, a punch in the stomach. I adore your last stanza and I think that there is a lot happening under the surface. Wonderful, I can’t praise it enough!

Reminds me of the famous Bruce Lee quote, “be like water, my friend.” :)

This poem offers an interesting sentiment – rain can go places and act in ways that man simply cannot. By examining this notion, the speaker of the poem shines light on the base desires of man. Well done.
